The bout was Rousey’s first fight since she lost the title to Holly Holm via head kick more than a year earlier. Rousey entered the contest as the favorite at -175. Nunes was a +145 underdog.

Rousey found herself in trouble early in the fight. The crisp striking of Nunes snapped Rousey’s head back each time she made contact and with Rousey’s porous defense and lack of head movement, Nunes landed more strikes than she missed. The fight was over 48 seconds after it began. During that short time, Nunes landed 27 strikes to Rousey’s seven on her way to the TKO win.

Since that win, Nunes has defended her title twice. Rousey has not fought for the UFC since that setback. However, she has not officially announced her retirement.

Nunes’ title is not on the line when she faces Cris Cyborg at UFC 232. Instead, Nunes looks to become a two-division champion when she attempts to end Cyborg’s reign as the UFC women’s featherweight champ.

UFC 232 takes place at The Forum in Inglewood, California on December 29.
