It was ok. I am not exactly the target audience for this book so I won't be making a recommendation, but this would be a good book for teenagers to read. (Yes, I just realised that I gave a recommendation after saying I wouldn't be recommending it)

So, when I picked this up, I thought I was getting a sassy biography type of book. What I ended up with was a self-help book with personal anecdotes peppered in. Not a bad thing in and of itself, but definitely not what I had expected.
The problem I had with this book mainly was the writing. It was clunky, repetitive, and felt very, very young. The overuse of hashtags and emojis that are shoehorned into nearly every paragraph feels like it was trying to hard to be young and 'relatable.' It hit al

I really love the audiobook of this book. Keke say the hashtags so funny to me. I knocked down a star on the 4th reread because it is repetitive at times but i still enjoy the story cause it’s Keke 🤷🏽♀

First opening to read this book I thought I knew all that was Keke Palmer. Boy was I wrong. I learned about her and how she overcame every struggle she faced in her life. From having depression, dealing with sexuality and feeling as if she has to keep to one label.

It is no secret that I am a fan of Keke Palmer, I admire her infectious personality and her strong work ethic. However, this book was not as inspirational as I thought, it had some valid points but for the most part, it went on these long tedious tangents. The writing style was not the best either, the inserted emoji's was really annoying, it was like reading though text messages. I am not sure if that were supposed to be more entertaining and relateable, but it was frustrating to read through....more

I LOVED this book!
Keke discusses her life and the trials and tribulations that she has experienced, as well as how she has worked to overcome them. This book has great advice for life, and I love her views on spirituality. She wrote in a way that makes you feel like you are diving into her personal story, and she makes you feel like you can relate to her, even though the struggles are different.
This is one of my new favorites. Great job, Keke.

It didn't take me this long to listen. I started it late and then it was returned to the library so I was on the wait list until I could finish. It was an okay listen. I do enjoy when actors/actresses read their own story. I could have done without the abundance of 'hashtags' or maybe I'm just old lol.

I *tried* to listen to this. I really did. I even got 50% through it! Here’s the thing though; I went in blind. I didn’t know who Keke Palmer was, I just thought the title would empower me.
I know, quirky. It sounded almost like I was going to get a mindful but kind of bossy personal growth book ya know?
I wish I’d looked her up. I would have know that she says a very specific phrase and she says it often.
“And the gag is” blah blah blah “and the gag is”. I couldn’t handle it.
On top of that, I t

So, one of my students told me I just had to read this book though I informed her that I am not a big fan of KeKe Palmer. Either way, the student actually brought the book to my classroom so I 'had' to read it. Lol! Well, this student told me I would have a new perspective on KeKe after I read the book but that's not completely true. As a matter of fact, I think I know more about KeKe Palmer than I wanted to. Lol! So, I'm not upset that I read the book but it didn't add anything to my life. I'm...more
Keke i just have to give it to you on this one. You are an AMAZING, influential, inspiring artist and i just loved this book. Every chapter was thrilling to me and with every word i got to know you deeper. I really related to you on how you grew up and how you went through depression and you just gave me so much hope, that i can see the light at the end of the tunnel. You motivate me so much to do better and be positive, whether that means eating cleaner foods, helping your community, or overall...more
Overall, Keke's book gave great insight in living your truth, finding your inner confidence, growing from your past mistakes and finding your spirituality. My favorite part of the book were the visual pages that were included about halfway through each chapter with an inspirational quote or message (I took pictures of a lot of them so I could look back at them later). However, I think the downfall in the book was the structure. I feel like it might have been more effective if she retold her life...more
Listen I love Keke. She has truly been one of my favorites since Akeelah and True Jackson. The sentences in this book had my head dazed though. Lots of run on sentences, the whole book could have been shortened by about 50 pages with more precise language. It's less of a memoir and more of a stream of consciousness.
I don't know if I could say I'm a huge Keke Palmer fan, I have seen her work and never had any bad thoughts of her - just haven't followed her career intently. Reading her book however, left me feeling inspired and especially in the last chapter I had tears in my eyes. She is a great writer, stemming from her years of writing in her journals probably. I encourage anyone at any stage of life to read her words, because she hits home for a lot of different aspects in life. You can truly relate to t...more

Great book! I found out about this book by watching Keke Palmer on the Wendy Williams Show. I have always liked Keke's work as an actress. I think she is very talented. So I was looking forward to reading this book. And I was not disappointed! I thought this was a great book! Keke gave a lot of good advice for young women. She touched on many different real life issues. While candidly expressing her own struggles and triumphs. Her personality really came through in this book. She even used emoji...more
This book was just 'ok' for me. Kind of the same old same old for me personally.

I love the concept behind this book, and after watching Scream Queens Keke Palmer was on my radar -- her hilarious Zayday Williams Kappa Kappa Tau sorority sister really stole the show!
Keke writes these little essays with a sassy, conversational voice, and liberal amounts of chatspeak and emojis. It's like chatting with one of your best girlfriends. There's a decent range of the subjects Keke covers and all with a very thoughtful and mature angle that doesn't sound preachy or overly self-import

Like some people, I enjoy watching Keke Palmer. I especially love her interviews. She seems happy, like a person who truly knows who she is. Meaning she accepts herself and is all about the journey in being her best self. This is why I listened to her book entitled, I don’t belong to you: Quiet the Noise and Find your voice.
Keke Palmer is multi-talented; she sings, she acts, and she dances. Luckily, Keke was allowed to explore her creativity as a kid or as she put it “using her gifts”. Keke Palm

Although this book gave great advice it kept going in a circle repeating itself. It was a self help/biography book. KeKe gave some great advice on how to push yourself into going out & getting what you want, how to achieve your dreams & how to listen to your own voice & shut out the voices of others who tell you that you can't accomplish anything. She started out telling readers how she grew up & how she got into the acting business, then jumped into when she was fourteen, then b...more

I'm not actually done with this book but I am very close but I really only picked this book up when I need her encouragement. A chapter whenever I need it. I tried to read it beginning to end at the beginning of the year and I honestly can only do that with fiction books. I may end up getting this book on audio and finishing it later in the year but this book has been on my 'Currently Reading' shelf since the beginning of this year and I don't want to put it in my DNF pile either because Keke do...more
This book was pretty good. I honestly wish it hadn't taken me this long to get through it, I perhaps may have been a bit more invested and connected with it's overall through-line and that certainly would've kept me from going 'Oh wait who was this person again?' or ' What what happened in that chapter again?' (She makes a significant amount of references to earlier parts of the book and I found myself having to wrack my brain to keep the flow connected). It took me just a little over two months...more

Keke is an amazing person--super intelligent, spiritual, multi-talented and the list goes on. And she is only in her early twenties.
Here are some quotes I loved:
When we learn to let our light from within shine through us on earth, it in turn expands our world and allows us all the space to create many amazing things that we can only imagine in the moment. I feel that it is this awareness that helps keep you fearless and courageous throughout your life so that you can pursue your passion and live

Had this book for 2 years. My ex-boyfriend who worked at Simon & Schuster bought this home and I was totally excited to read it, but then we broke up and life happened. I guess a part of me hitting pause on it was a way of keeping my feelings from the past where they were at. this book helped me come to terms of finding my own voice and confronting my own baggage. After reading the six-page I knew it was one of those books I have to highlight all throughout so I can go back and reread the be...more

This was my first read in the self-help genre and I was a little bit hesitant because I thought it was going to be very generic and just telling me what I wanted to hear, but it was far from any of that. I really appreciated, and I think others as well will appreciate that she isn't acting like she has all of the answers to this crazy thing called life by telling us what we NEED to do. But she's without a doubt telling us what SHE did in whatever situations she found herself in and how SHE let H...more
If you're looking for a great memoir from a successful black person in the entertainment industry, I would highly suggest Charlamagne or Kevin Hart. I think Keke should have waited about 15/20 years before writing this book because she didn't have much to say. The book had a lot of filler and became quite repetitive and boring. I think she should enhance her writing skills, reveal aspects of her life people would find interesting and write a memoir that is actually compelling and encouraging in...more
At first, I tried to get into this book a year ago. But I wasn't ready for it. I was reading it but I wasn't taking it in like I should. I was reading to finish it, you know? I finally brought it with me on a trip and was determined to finish it. And I really loved it. The only thing I didn't like was the hashtags and emojis. I know that was supposed to make it so different, but it was just redundant to me. Like I can read your sentence and not have to read your hashtags and emojis to understand...more
The one thing I can say about Keke Palmer is that she's ALWAYS authentic (if you follow her on any social media, you know what I mean). So, reading this book was nothing short than her talks you would find on her snapchat with more depth. I give it three stars because although this book is catered to millennials, I feel like if I were a teenager, I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE this book! And maybe that's because many of the situations she encountered (I felt) would have been prevalent in high school. B...more
I enjoyed this book. The book logs Keke's journey of growing up in Illinois and moving to Los Angeles to pursue her dream of acting. She talks about her struggles of growing up in the entertainment industry, practically losing her family and finding herself. This book is very 2017, complete with hashtags, emojis and text slang (ie: lol). This book is perfect for young girls age 16 - 24 who are finding themselves. Keke's shares tips and stories of how she silenced the noise and found her voice. I...more

The book was okay. I find myself very bored about two chapters in. I finished the book anyways. I liked learning a little more about KeKe background and the struggles she faced to get where she is now. The book seem to have no clear direction and just kept thinking what is the point of this book. Although some sections did have good quotes and inspiration.
I wish this book was around for me a few years ago. I love how Keke is able to give advice about staying true to yourself and isn't afraid to give specific personal examples. It's been a joy to see her grow into a confident and powerful young woman. She's doing a great service to her peers in this one.
I enjoyed learning more about KeKe and her character through her quick but impactful anecdotes. My only major gripe with her was the incessant hashtags. I’m not sure how it is formatted in the physical book, but in the audiobook it sounded awkward and cringe. Overall, it was easy to listen to while completing mundane tasks.

I don't wanna tear down the ratings since I did not finish the book. I'll just say for me there was too much repetition at the outset to feel like I wanted to press on through the text. I might enjoy/feel I could finish a CliffsNotes version more than the full text.
